Rachael + Stephen

Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant, Waiheke Island

How We Met

Unbeknown to Rachael, Stephen had been plotting to marry her for a while. The search for the perfect ring spanned the globe from Botswana, Nigeria, South Africa, Dubai, and finally coming up trumps on one of their adventures in New York City. He sent her off on a shopping trip, grabbed his window and popped into Tiffany’s for a ring. Stephen hid the ring for a good part of a year before he found the perfect place and moment to propose to Rachael. It was on one of their trips to Cooks beach, where Rachael spent her holidays growing up, that Stephen got down on one knee and proposed.

Our Wedding Style

We wanted to keep in theme with the beautiful surroundings of Mudbrick. With a rustic feel to the place, and an amazing view over the Haruaki Gulf it was important to us to not detract from this too much. We chose very soft and romantic tones of lavender, blush pink, and white. As Mudbrick is such a lovely destination to hold a wedding, and the grounds and restaurant are naturally beautiful the way they are, we kept decorations to a minimum. Instead we stuck to beautiful floral arrangements, lots of candles, and a roaring fire in the background. We also asked people to dress in formal and elegant attire, to keep in theme with the bride and groom.

Advice for Brides to be

Plan every single detail down to the very last point, and be specific in your requests. In saying that though, listen to the experts too as they tend to have excellent ideas and know what works well for the type of wedding you are planning and venue you are at. By doing this we had absolutely no hiccups on the day and it ran as smoothly as possible. It took so much worry and stress out of our hands knowing that we could trust everyone to do their job.

Top 3 moments

1/ The first look - seeing each other for the first time was very emotional and surreal. 2/ Getting our photos done - Waiheke is such an amazing island and it was so much fun spending a couple of hours enjoying and capturing the natural beauty of this landscape in our pictures. 3/ The reception - spending quality time on our special day with all our close family and friends.
