Stacey + Josh

Kumeu Valley Estate, Kumeu

Stacey and Josh

Josh & Stacey’s wedding was a family-oriented occasion that blended simplicity with a lot of fun to create a beautiful and memorable day. With both their ceremony and reception held at Kumeu Valley Estate, their wedding featured a rustic style with bunting and fairy lights for decor. Stacey’s motto was to “relax and enjoy the day” because it passes by so quickly.

How We Met

Josh and I met in January 2010. We were introduced to each by our two best friends. Josh has a great smile and a warm heart which is something I loved as soon as I met him. Within 6 months we were living together and four years later he proposed on a family trip to Rarotonga. He surprised me with flights to Aitutaki and booked us a few nights at the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa. It was very romantic and everything about it was just perfect!

Our Wedding Style

Josh and I planned a Saturday to go and view as many venues as possible. We did some prior research online and had a pretty good idea of what we were after. We went to Kumeu Valley Estate first and loved it so much that we didn't look at any others. We liked that it was situated close to where we both grew up and its rustic look worked well with our chosen theme. Our colours and flowers were simple - the bridesmaids wore a peach tone with gypsophila bouquets and the groomsmen wore light grey suits with gypsophila button holes. Our table arrangements were also simple with peach-coloured flowers and our favours were small jam jars. Our idea of the perfect wedding was to be surrounded by all of our favourite people. We wanted it to be fun with lots of laughs (when you have a huge bridal party like we did, it was easy to achieve).

The Dress, Hair & Makeup

When it was time to find the wedding dress, one of my bridesmaids suggested Rue De Seine. I had peeped in the window a few times and so I was pretty excited when the time finally came to try on their beautiful gowns. The ladies from Rue De Seine were amazing, so helpful, and made the whole experience really fun! I chose the Devin gown simply because I loved everything about it. My hair was curled and left loose and I wore a pearl necklace and earrings. My makeup was natural with a slight smokey eye. Leah Haeata was my hair and makeup gal and she did a brilliant job.

The Ceremony

Because we wanted to include family and friends as much as possible, our ceremony was very family orientated. Josh's Uncle was our celebrant and my Poppa walked me down the aisle to music of bagpipes - played in memory of Josh's Scottish Grandad. My Grandma gave a reading and my little cousin acted as our ring girl. My sister and sister-in-law both have 8 month old boys so they walked down the aisle with them. I thought this was such a cool way to include the new family members.

The Reception

We held our reception at Kumeu Valley Estate also. We had a buffet dinner and hung handmade bunting above the tables and fairy lights behind the bridal table. A very close friend of ours made our wedding cake. Josh and I chose to spread our speeches out - we had a few before dinner, a few after dinner and then we cut our cake just before dessert. After dessert we had our first dance which was played by our band, The Dobros. We chose “Brown Eyed Girl” because we wanted something fun and relaxed... and it was a bit of a laugh because I have brown eyes.

Advice for Brides to be

Even if you have a small budget, take time to go away with your husband afterwards. We really enjoyed our time away, just the two of us. It's nice to unwind and spend time in each other’s company before going back to reality. Most importantly, relax and enjoy the day - it goes by so quickly so take deep breaths and soak it all in! It truly is the best day of your life.
