Picture this, the most significant moment of your wedding. As you walk down the aisle, gorgeous acoustic guitars begin playing your chosen song, bringing your guests to tears. Acoustic ceremony music creates a magical atmosphere for your procession, and since the procession is the moment that most people think about when imagining their dream wedding, it is an important part to get right. But acoustic artists can contribute so much more than just a magical ambience during your procession. After you’ve said “I do”, instead of leaving your guests to mingle in silence, your musicians can perform an hour or more of background music while you mingle with guests, catch up with everyone, and enjoy the afterglow.
If you think an acoustic artist might be a good addition to your wedding, here are our top 10 picks of Auckland’s best acoustic musicians and acoustic duos.
Gorgeous Auckland acoustic solo artist Asch-Rose sings with an unaffected purity. Asch-Rose has been hands down Auckland’s most popular acoustic artist for weddings over the past two years and is quickly filling up with bookings for next wedding season, both as a soloist and with her band the Asch Rose Band.
Talented Brazilian singer Ge Luz released his first solo album “Momento" in 2013, and his second album “Canto Pra Dois”, in 2017. Ge has been performing since 2003 and can perform solo, as a duo with percussion, or as part of a larger band. His mix of bossa nova, samba and jazz covers the quintessential summer sounds of Brazil.
Allenby Park is an acoustic duo offering beautiful acoustic music with a generous helping of the groove. Whether the vibe is a laid back summer afternoon or something with a bit more dancefloor flavour, they have it covered. Allenby Park’s song list includes John Legend, Ed Sheeran, Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Toto, Prince and Bob Marley, and indeed has something for everyone.
Acoustic duo Amélie and Tilman combine jazz and pop to create a sophisticated, relaxed atmosphere for any event. Taking inspiration from the likes of Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse, the vocal and guitar duo perform interpretations of songs by artists including Sade, Eric Clapton, Ellie Goulding, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran. Amélie and Tilman have toured extensively through Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium, and both gained degrees in music at the International Music College in Freiburg, Germany.
Ra Toia is a gifted vocalist who has spent the last ten years performing at the highest level in the world’s most celebrated hotels in 10 different countries. Performing acoustically with multi-instrumentalist Hayden Booth, High Society Duo offers a selection of laid-back soul, classic hits and an acoustic take on modern songs.
Acoustic duo Jaime and Chet’s sound can be simply summed up as “everything under the sun”. They cover every genre imaginable and do it well. Chet is in constant demand on the touring circuit and in the studio. The professionalism, passion and energy he brings to his music make him the first point of call for a number of top entertainers in New Zealand and on the international stage. Jaime began classical vocal training and live performance at the age of 14. He formed legendary Auckland covers act Hands Off in 1999 who, nearly 20 years on, is still one of Auckland’s top corporate event bands.
With a sound that traverses Stevie Wonder to Stevie Nicks, Prince to Michael Jackson, The Pickups duo offers something uniquely soulful and multidimensional. Along with performing as a full five-piece band, Andy and Victor offer beautiful arrangements of songs performed by iconic male and female recording artists, stripped back to acoustic guitar and Victor’s distinct, limitless voice.
Taotua Duo delivers an incredible groove with just acoustic guitar and percussion. TJ Taotua has been singing for 18 years, covering genres and styles such as blues, jazz, funk, motown, disco and old school.
Featuring Clo Chaperon (Vocalist) and Dr Mark Baynes (Pianist), Quantum Blue Duo perform a range of beautiful songs that will bring elegance and old world glamour to any occasion. The duo performs a combination of well-known jazz standards from the American songbook along with relaxed arrangements of contemporary hits. Whether it’s cocktails in warmly lit bars or canapes in the late afternoon sun, the duo will strike just the right chord.
Sam can comfortably switch gears to beautiful acoustic renditions of some of the best pop, hip hop, funk and soul tunes, injected with his unique soulful sensibility. Sam’s vast experience performing as part of the house band at Sale Street (now Sweatshop) in central Auckland, combined with time performing full-time on cruise ships have given him a musical pedigree few can match. Still in his 20s, Sam is already a veteran of the NZ music scene with the skills to match.
