You’ll often find that the elements that make for a perfect wedding converge on the rolling grounds of a vineyard. Beautifully maintained outdoor spaces designed to keep people wandering around in a festive state of enthrallment, restaurants on-site that are experienced in the provision of foods that keep the merriment going, and a never-ending supply of the best wines grown in New Zealand… Every estate has its own character and features that distinguishes it in some way, and exploring vineyard venues can be an extremely fun way of conducting ‘research’ for your wedding planning with your partner or bridal party. To help you get started, here is our shortlist of the most stunning vineyards to be found in the Auckland region.

As it became increasingly renowned for the owners’ skills at hosting weddings and other functions, Markovina Estate shifted from being a boutique vineyard to a full-time events venue. Every aspect of the venue and services provided by the experienced staff has been designed to make your wedding day one to remember.

Situated on a stunning 10-acre property in Kumeu, the grounds of this family-owned estate have been developed over the years to feature five distinct ceremony locations (including garden areas and water features) that channel different aspects of the vineyard aesthetic and make for exquisite, outdoor photography backdrops. Muriwai beach is also located nearby should you want a seascape for your post-ceremony photographs, and add variety to the captured memories you’ll have of your big day.

On the western sides of the Waitakere ranges, this is an estate nestled on the border between Auckland City from the wilderness of the coast. On McGrath Estate, near beautiful native bush is The Barn - a venue with exposed high ceilings and rustic barn doors - which can hold up to 120 guests. If you’re looking for a venue with all the hospitality features of a vineyard that still feels like an escape to a wilder kind of nature, McGrath Estate may be the perfect option for you.

A boutique vineyard, a glass house overlooking a lake, a sculpture trail exhibiting the works of some of New Zealand’s best contemporary artists… there’s more than just wine to be found in the 200 acres that make up Brick Bay. It’s a stunning venue that was designed and built to feature exquisite visual variety - in 2007, the glass house won a New Zealand Institute of Architects Award for Architecture - making it ideal for wedding or engagement photography.

With a romantic backdrop of willow trees and sprawling vines, Villa Maria Estate makes for a pretty idyllic wedding venue, just half an hour from the centre of town. With the ability to seat up to 500 guests in a marquee site, or up to 200 guests in a variety of ceremony spaces, it’s a large venue that is as accommodating as it is stunning.

And since we are talking about vineyard venues after all, as New Zealand’s most awarded winery, Villa Maria’s exceptional and extensive wine list will be sure to impress your guests, especially when expertly food-matched by their professionals to your reception meal options.
