Hair and makeup are ever-changing, like all fashion. There are a kaleidoscope of options to pick from, but what are this year's top 5 trends for brides across the globe?

When brides think of their look for the day, it's usually the wedding dress that takes precedence. However, hair and makeup are equally as important when it comes to styling − like love and marriage, you can't have one without the other. With this in mind, we've handpicked the top 5 hair and makeup trends for 2019, whether they're all over magazines or the runway, or styles from real weddings in cosy churches.

1/ Berry up

Sources say that berry is the new red. It’s here to give you drama with a touch of vintage appeal. This modern look is ideal with pure white wedding gowns, but don’t be afraid to experiment! You can pair a berry lip colour with a bold eye look for a dramatic, sensuous look over winter, or couple it with full lashes and a swathe of eyeshadow for something subtler for the warmer months. If you’re keen on a berry lipstick or gloss for your wedding day but are having trouble committing, consider diffusing the colour out and going for a gradient look.

2/ Half-up, half-down

The half-up bridal hairstyle got a much-needed makeover. Rather than pulling hair up and back into a full half-section (that, let’s face it, was hard work for anyone with curly, long and voluminous hair), only the layers of the hair that frame the face are pulled back and secured. Easy, simple and romantic, this look is a go-to for brides and wedding parties alike. It suits all hair types and is a traditional, elegant look that everyone adores.

3/ Glow on

There’s nothing like glowing, radiant skin. With trends such as “glass skin” and “dewy skin” being the go-to looks for 2019, bridal makeup trends are following the call of luminescent makeup on their wedding days. Be it summer, winter, spring or autumn, glowy skin is a perfect option throughout the year. Choose between an array of highlighters to emphasise the high points of your face, from fine powders to sparkling liquids, and, if you’re unsure of what shade to select, consult a professional. Highlighters come in a whole host of colours, be it barely-there peach or a classic golden glaze.

4/ Flower power

Make a statement with flowers in your hair! Petals in curls can be a cute touch, or tiny daisies can be woven into your hair for a dreamy, romantic feel. Whether you’ve long hair or short hair, curly, wavy or straight, flowers can be worked into your bridal hairstyle to give you a soft, beautiful look that’s easy to pull off. If you’re thinking of being a little more extravagant, hair bouquets and flower crowns are always there to assist you. Perfect in summer and spring, flowers are a traditional fashion statement − especially when it comes to weddings.

5/ All that glitters

Sparkle onwards with a fun trend that’s filtered its way into the world of weddings: glitter. Gone are the days where majority of brides are choosing neutral, matte looks for their eyes. Instead, we’ve got everything glam, with glitter in every form: eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara. Glitter adds a modern, beautiful touch to bridal makeup that can be as easy as you want it to be. Opt for all-over glitter in a flush of rose gold, or dust silvery glitter atop a smokey eye for a definitive pop. It not only makes everything shinier, but more romantic, too.
