Meet Amelie & Vex.
A modern love story that defied the distance.

“We met online at 16 and 17 through video games in 2020. I was living in New Zealand and Vex was in America. It only took a few months before we realised we had too much in common not to try and give long-distance a go. A lot of long-haul flights later, and the rest is history!”

What's an aspect of your wedding that encapsulates you two as a couple?

“The little (nerdy) details. We made sure the day was filled with things that brought us joy as a couple. We had photos playing our favourite card game, our accessories had dice - we love D&D! - and homages to our hometowns in the table settings. It was the details no one else noticed that felt the most special to us. A true celebration of who we are together.”

What do you believe was the best investment you made for your big day?

“Flying in Vex’s parents and sister from the States. It wouldn’t have been the same without them there, and it was well worth allocating our budget to having the people we love most celebrate with us. Showing off beautiful Aotearoa was a perk too!”

What was your take on tradition?

“The only really traditional thing we did was have my dad walk me down the aisle, and Vex hadn’t seen my dress. Otherwise, it was very untraditional and low-key. More like a big party than a formal event. Very us.”

What's an aspect of your day that surprised you, or caught you off guard?

“We expected to be way more stressed. Luckily, we had a great team supporting us on the day, but I remember thinking, ‘I don’t care if anything goes wrong, I’m just so happy to be marrying you.’ All the stresses of organising melted away once we got to the altar, and we could just party.”
