From strangers to soulmates

Jennifer and Johann’s love story began far from home. Both had packed their lives into two small suitcases and travelled across the world to New Zealand—without knowing that fate had a plan. “If someone had told us we’d find love so far away, we wouldn’t have believed them,” they say.

It all started with a swipe. Then Johann’s clever icebreaker - two truths and a lie. Texting led to phone calls, and despite the distance (and COVID), they made it work. Before long, they’d moved in together and fallen into a rhythm that just felt right.

Fast forward to October 27th, in front of the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Johann dropped to one knee as a crowd of strangers erupted in applause. Jennifer said yes. After four years of adventure, growth, and love, they tied the knot in New Zealand—welcoming in a new chapter as Mr. and Mrs. Spagnol.

What was the best investment you made?

"The venue and the photographer. The venue had everything we asked for—an amazing outdoor area with a beautiful lake coupled with a cozy yet spacious dinner hall. Lionel Tan and Da Hai did an amazing job capturing every moment and every detail, leaving us with a whole repertoire of beautiful memories that will last a lifetime."

What was non-negotiable?

"A good party—or as we call it in Colombia, la Hora Loca. A crazy hour of dancing to the most traditional and popular songs."

Did you put your own twist on any traditions?

"Yes! Blessing of the Arras, Hora Loca, a traditional Colombian dancing performance and a waiata."

What caught you off guard, in the best or most unexpected way?

“The team at Abel Estate went above and beyond. The concierge package made everything seamless—we highly recommend it.”

Is there any advice you’d pass on to other couples just getting started?

"Enjoy the process, trust the experts and make sure you have fun on your wedding day!"
