We chatted with the lovely Ioana of Sélea Photography, who was there to capture Steph & Jasper's autumnal wedding in all its glory.

Was there anything in particular about this wedding day that stood out to you?

"Stephanie & Jasper chose to have no bridal party and DIY'd a lot of their stunning decor, such as all the signs, the invites, the dried petal confetti, and pottery that Jasper has collected over the years from thrift shops. Jasper wore a suit he had thrifted (so cool!)  and Stephanie wore a custom-made dress that fit her perfectly."

Can you describe the atmosphere during the ceremony?

"Hearing the Kererū's and Tūī birds play in the bushes all around us felt very special. The low autumn sun filled the glade with the most magical light, and yet it wasn't too cold for late April. A friend of the couple officiated the ceremony, so it all felt very personal and special."

How did you approach the couple's portrait session?

"We split the portraits into three sessions.

The first session was the first look - which actually took place at my home! It just so happened to be the perfect in-between location from the getting-ready spots and the venue (Tui Hills). We have some sheep on our lifestyle block, so they joined in for some cute portraits during the first-look moments!

The second portrait session took place after the ceremony during cocktail hour. We captured Stephanie & Jasper in the glade during the last light. Absolutely lovely!

Finally, the couple wanted me to capture a day-after shoot for them. We ventured out to Kitekite Falls and Piha Beach while the sun was setting, and the relaxed vibe was so much fun! All the pressure and potential stress from the day before had just melted away, and we had so much fun out there together. I highly rate day-after shoots!"

Is there a particular photo that stands out to you, and why?

"I shot on a roll of 35 mm film over the span of two days. My favourite ( and Steph's favourite) photo is this film photo from Kitekite Falls. It's not at all edited, but all the colours are just so lovely!"

What do you hope Stephanie & Jasper remember most when they look back at their wedding photos?

"I hope they remember the joy of finally getting married, the wonderful weather they had, and all the important people in their life who took part in the celebrations!"

What makes this wedding unique compared to others you've photographed

"What made this wedding stand out to me was the day-after shoot. It really made all the difference! Steph and Jasper were still on their wedding high, yet all the responsibilities were done. They could now just have fun, which I think is really obvious in the photos too!"
