“We met at work—Ted was assigned as my buddy when I joined as a graduate. Over time, our friendship deepened, especially during lockdowns when we kept each other company through movies, books, painting, and games. That time really showed us how well we got along."

"Eventually, what began as friendship slowly turned into something more. We both love riddles and mysteries, so I planned a city-wide scavenger hunt that led Ted through spots that held special meaning—like where we had our first date and first kiss. It ended with me asking him out, and thankfully, he said yes!"

"Years later, in a full-circle moment, Ted created his own scavenger hunt that led me to Mudbrick Cottages on Waiheke Island. That’s where he got down on one knee and proposed.”

What was one non-negotiable for your wedding?

“We had a few! An outdoor ceremony was a must, and we chose to have a phone-free civil service so the moment felt really sacred. We also knew we wanted a fully vegetarian/vegan menu and an open bar for our guests—both were big hits!”

What do you consider the best investment you made, and why?
“Our photographer and videographer, (Kouki Weddings), hands down. Once the day is over, the photos and videos are what keep the memories alive. We wanted a team whose style we loved and who made us feel comfortable—and Kouki Weddings nailed it. They captured all the emotion, laughter, and those rare moments of having all our favourite people in one place. That meant everything.”

Did you include anything non-traditional in your wedding?
“Yes, plenty! We had two ceremonies—one traditional South Indian and one Western. We asked both our grandmothers to sign our wedding documents, and I had both of my parents walk me down the aisle. At the reception, we surprised each other with choreographed performances—one from Ted and his crew for me, and one from me and my girls for him. Instead of a single cake, we had mini cakes in different flavours (because we couldn’t choose just one!). And we had a first look with both of our families before the ceremony, which was really special.”

What’s one thing that surprised you about the day?
“How much can still go wrong even when you’ve planned everything well in advance! Our first venue cancelled after being sold, some vendors double-booked, we had guest list changes, and even lost our mic transmitter on the day. But what truly surprised us was how little any of that mattered. We stayed present and focused on what really mattered—getting married. And that part was perfect.”

What advice would you share with other couples just starting their wedding planning journey?
“Don’t stress over the tiny details. When things feel overwhelming, take a step back and remember why you’re doing this—you’re marrying the love of your life. The perfect flowers or seating chart are nice, but the real magic is in the love and joy surrounding you. Be present, soak up every moment, and stay close to each other throughout the day. It goes by so fast, and sharing it together is what makes it unforgettable.”
