How did your story begin?

“We met through mutual friends! Some of my nearest and dearest friends from school have husbands in the Fire Service, and Tom is a firefighter and good friends with their husbands. It’s such a small world! We would see each other fairly regularly at friends’ catch-ups, and our friends kept pointing us out to each other - not very subtly, I might add! It all kind of fell into place from there.”

What felt most valuable to prioritise for your wedding?

“We wanted the day to feel like a fun, light celebration of love - with minimal formalities and lots of meaningful social moments. Honestly, we both feel like it was the perfect way to have a wedding.

Everything came together exactly as we’d dreamed, thanks to the incredible help and care from Steph and Nick at Space on Crummer. There honestly aren’t enough words to describe how amazing they were. They calmly thought of every detail and took care of absolutely everything we could have needed on the day. We were - and still are - blown away.

And we get to relive all those special moments over and over thanks to Ruby and her beautiful photos. We’re forever grateful.”

Did you put your own twist on any traditions, or break a few entirely?

“We wanted to keep everything casual and fun, so we opted for a party-style reception with a grazing platter instead of a sit-down dinner - and it was perfect for us.

We also absolutely loved having our kids walk us down the aisle. They were so excited and understood exactly what the day was all about. Not many people expected them to come out first and lead us down the aisle, so it became one of our favourite moments from the entire day.”

Looking back, what part of the day felt most like “you”?

“We’ve talked a lot about this, actually! One of our favourite things about our wedding was the special people who helped make the day happen.

A close friend of ours had been wanting to become a celebrant for a while, and when we mentioned we’d love him to marry us, it got the ball rolling. We couldn’t have imagined anyone else doing it.

My incredibly talented brother made the most amazing wedding cake - my favourite of all his creations - along with his famous tarts. Honestly, I’m pretty sure the desserts received more compliments than my dress, and people are still talking about them now!

Our dear friend Ruby, who was also a guest and an incredible photographer, captured the day so perfectly behind the lens, including all the little moments in between.

And of course, having our three kids there on the day made it even more special. They were just as excited as we were to be part of it all. Our oldest son, TJ, even did a cheeky little reading during the ceremony. Having family - and friends who feel like family - bring the whole day together made it unforgettable.”

What surprised you most about the day?

“How incredible it feels to stand in front of all your loved ones - family and friends who feel like family - and feel their love, smiles, and happiness for you. I mentioned in my speech that it was one of the most incredible feelings in the world. It truly felt like a day filled with love from every direction.”
