Wild and Beautiful: Styled by the Sea

There are few things better than the sun, the sea and love. With Okahu sitting on the water’s edge, a dreamy styled shoot bathed in natural light was the clear answer for a band of forward-thinking creatives to express their innovation. Ellie from Proshot Photography and Deb from Wildly Madly Deeply walked us through the invigorating process of weaving together the details of this venture. “As we all know, the wedding industry has been hit hard during these times. We refer to it as our rollercoaster,” they shared. “Okahu is such a spectacular venue that, when asked to collaborate with such talented creators, we all jumped at the chance.” Three keywords came to mind when planning this shoot: wild, mesmerising and natural. Wedding florals and styling are the foundation of enhancing a venue; it was all about embracing the swaying vista of the ocean, from the glowing sunset in the late afternoon to the twinkling of the city after dark. Okahu brings unmatched views with a décor that favours soft palettes and is ideal for the micro modern weddings that we have been seeing more of these days. “We want to prove that your day can be as dreamy as you imaged it to be, whether it’s ten people or a hundred,” they said. “In the end, it’s really just about you.” This shoot was inspired by Okahu’s surroundings, from the serenity of Waitemata Harbour to Tamaki Makaurau, alongside the feelings of the vendors during this challenging time. It was the realisation of a dream as they weaved together the elements, picking deep greens, soft pinks and organic tones that seamlessly complemented the venue. “As we wanted to work with texture and softness, we modernised and toned down the older boho look,” they told us. “This created a more natural, organic feel, which also allowed our slightly wilder style to creep back in.” With touches of whimsy, they put together an immaculate shoot, as mystical as the driving force underlining it all: the ever-changing beauty of the sea.
