This week, we’ve definitely felt a shift in the air in Auckland. But stormy weather aside, with the change of the seasons, also comes a change in wedding colour palettes. So we’ve curated a collection of autumn-inspired photographs to scroll through as you take refuge indoors. From the autumnal tones that evoke an atmosphere of romantic warmth, to the moodier design elements that make for striking photography, they’re images that’ll have you falling slowly for the magical aesthetic of fall weddings.

An autumnal colour palette creates a sense of cosiness via tones that reflect the changing of the seasons: oranges, burnt siennas, browns, berries and burgundies. They’re rich, lush hues that exude glamour and will make your wedding aesthetic speak volumes.

But what we love about incorporating these bright hues in your wedding theme is that they rely a lot on a background abundant with softer, more neutral colours in order to stand out. Neutrals, as well as being flattering and versatile, make things look timeless and bring a sense of cohesion to any venue.

Autumn palettes also make room for stunning pops of colour, for a more artistic, bohemian aesthetic. Van Gogh once said that the essence of blue was brought out by yellows and oranges, and the reciprocal is also definitely true. The celebrant’s blazer jacket in this photograph perfectly complements and accentuates the stunning warmer-toned florals of the arch and bouquet to bring an exquisitely bohemian element to the atmosphere.

Though the transition of summer to autumn heralds the dying of the natural world, the foliage that is available for bouquets in this season is unparalleled. They provide texture and dimension to bouquets and other floral arrangements, and if you opt for a dried bouquet you can always keep it as a memento of your big day.

If you are considering a forest wedding, the natural landscape in autumn is much more photogenic compared to the verdant greens of summer. Green - though beautiful to look at - isn’t a colour that serves as a particularly flattering backdrop for many skin tones. Autumn leaves, on the other hand, are as romantic as they are flattering - the stunning blush skirts of this bridal party look amazing against the browns of these woods, and their creamy whites are the perfect way of making their look distinct yet cohesive with the bride’s.

One of the best things about the autumn palette is that it exquisitely accommodates the moodier tones without compromising on the romantic atmosphere integral to a wedding. If you’re not looking for a sweet, princess-type look, the edgier autumn-inspired looks featuring dark lips and dark (even black) florals might be the perfect option to turn heads on your wedding day.
