Cara and Dennis

Cara and Dennis met through mutual friends on a night out in the city when they were nineteen. By the night's end, Dennis plucked up the courage to ask Cara for her number.

Thirteen years on, they exchanged vows under a magical canopy of trees at Waterfall Farm.

Here is our chat with the newlyweds.

What was the proposal like?

"Dennis planned a weekend away to Raglan but because he never really plans much, he had to make it seem like my idea to go away so I wouldn't be suspicious.

On the morning of the proposal, he gave me a beautiful set of crystal champagne glasses.

We then went to a lookout on a cliff, where he finally popped the question.

Later that day, we had a beautiful dinner and drank champagne from the new crystal glasses he gave me."

What is your favourite memory from your wedding?

"We did a salsa dance for our first dance, and it was so much fun. Everyone was so surprised at how good Dennis (and I) could dance!"

What do you consider the best wedding investment you made?

"Booking the right vendors to suit our personality and the style we had chosen for the day."

Who was your outstanding wedding vendor?

"Our wedding celebrant and MC, Tasha Bowen, was fantastic and did such an excellent job.

From the first meeting with her, she made us feel relaxed, explained everything and gave us great ideas to make our day fun and easygoing.

The ceremony she put together was personalised and heartfelt, with enough lightheartedness to keep everyone engaged.

Afterwards, as our MC, she did a great job making sure everyone knew where they needed to be and mingled with the guests.

We had so many guests saying how awesome she was, and we would recommend her to anyone!"

What is your #1 piece of wedding advice to couples planning their big day?

"Pick your non-negotiables or big-ticket ideas and make sure those are executed well. Then don't stress yourself out about the smaller things.

Make sure you have fantastic vendors who know your vision.

Lastly, take quiet moments on the day to soak up the moment and enjoy it as it goes by so quickly!"
