Roshan and Kavita

Photography by Misi Chan Weddings

Kavita and Roshan met at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds in 2011. They hit it off and remained distant friends. Seven years later, their paths crossed again at a hockey tournament, and this time, the timing was right. Due to ring delays caused by lockdowns - the proposal was postponed a couple of times. In December 2021, Roshan was finally able to plan a surprise proposal at Tawharanui Beach after a day of catching waves in the summer heat. Cyclone Gabrielle threatened to disrupt their outdoor wedding, but with the help of Annette and the team at KVE, they celebrated in style! — What were your favourite moments from the day? "Seeing each other in our respective outfits for the first time, sharing our vows, exchanging rings and ultimately - marrying each other! It felt as though we were on cloud nine. Our first dance was a highlight too!" — What do you consider the best wedding investment you made? "The best investment was partnering with vendors who aligned and understood our vision for the day — Kumeu Valley Estate, Misi Chan Weddings (photography) and Arc Visuals (videography). They were down to earth, genuine, kind, consultative and unique. The high level of care, interest and presence said it all. We could bounce ideas, review pros and cons and make sound decisions. These vendors truly made our day exceptional and a dream come true." — What is one thing you wish you had known before planning your wedding? "Think hard about what you want your day to feel like - who you want to be involved (from the bridal party to vendors and guests), and what you can control. It's a day you will reflect on for the rest of your life. There were a couple of things that didn't go our way, but we were fortunate to have been able to troubleshoot and continue to have an outdoor wedding considering the amount of rain and Cyclone Gabrielle. Our advice would be to have at least two game plans. If anything is weather dependent, ensure the venue and your vendors are clear on roles and responsibilities on the day!"
